Media

Curriculum Intent Statement

The overall intent of the Media Studies curriculum is to engage students in contemporary society and culture through the theoretical framework which includes; media language, representation, audience and media industries. The media can play a central role in shaping our perceptions of the world through the representations, viewpoints and messages they offer to us. The curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop both written and practical knowledge and understanding of these key issues and the ability to debate important questions about the media. A range of media texts are studied, both contemporary and historical, gaining real awareness of the role the media plays in society today. It is also vital for students to draw on their existing experience of the media to extend their appreciation and critical understanding of those they are less familiar with. Students are encouraged that interpreting their answers, using the PEAL structure, can be different and still correct. They become the creators of the meanings through their explanations and analytical skills developed. As well as the analytical side of the curriculum, students gain knowledge of media design skills at a professional level by using Photoshop and InDesign.

Learning Journey

Below you will find an overview of the Media Learning Journey that RBA students will experience during key stage 5.
