Curriculum Intent Statement

The intent of the Art department is to equip students with an introduction to key knowledge and skills so that they become confident in exploring their own creativity. The Art Department will offer students a chance to explore a wide range of techniques and materials. Students will not only be taught how to draw, paint and sculpt but how to observe, review and refine and how to express themselves. They will be taught the language of Art. How to use correct terminology to analyse the work of others and reflect on their own progress. Students will gain the confidence to take risks and experiment as well as a thorough understanding of the design process in order to realise their intentions. The intent is that students finish key stage 3 with an appreciation and knowledge of great 2D and 3D artists, designers and architects. An understanding of studio practice and equipment care are also built into the curriculum plan at key stage 3. The UK creative economy comprises an estimated 3.12m jobs or 1 in 11 of all UK jobs. The combination of knowing the design process and understanding the working practices of artists, designers and architects means that RBA students are prepared to follow a journey into this fast-growing sector.

Learning Journey Key Stage 3 to 5
Below you will find an overview of the Art Learning Journey that RBA students will experience from key stage 3 to key stage 5.
